OUR BELIEFS

OUR HISTORY

Our History

The Ottawa Church of God was first organized in June 1975 under the leadership of Rev. McIntyre and his assistant, Rev. C.B. Blake. This congregation began with a small group of believers who first met for Prayers and Bible Studies at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Wisdom.

The Lord continued to bless His work in such a tremendous way that in November 1981 the Church purchased a larger place of worship at 1319 Wellington Street.

By 1990, the Church needed more space and God provided for the purchase of 1820 Carling Avenue.

In 1994, Rev. & Mrs. Blake were appointed Regional Overseer for Ontario and Superintendent of Canada. Consequently, Rev. & Mrs. R.C. Hugh Nelson were called to Pastor the Ottawa Church of God.

In 2003, Bishop & Mrs. Nelson were called to Pastor the East Flatbush Church of God in New York.

Bishop J.W. Bruno was appointed as the Senior Pastor of the Ottawa Church of God in 2003. His lovely wife Renny oversees the Ladies Ministries in the Ottawa District. Together they are producing excellent results for the Lord.

To God be the Glory!

Our Beliefs

At the Ottawa Church of God, we believe the whole Bible to be completely and equally inspired and that it is the written Word of God. The Church of God has adopted the following Declaration of Faith as its standard and official expression of its doctrine.

Delaration of Faith

We Believe:

  1. In the verbal inspiration of the Bible.
  2. In one God eternally existing in three persons; namely, the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
  3. That Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father, conceived of the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus was crucified, buried, and raised from the dead. That He ascended to heaven and is today at the right hand of the Father as the Intercessor.
  4. That all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and that repentance is commanded of God for all and necessary for forgiveness of sins.
  5. That justification, regeneration, and the new birth are wrought by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ.
  6. In sanctification subsequent to the new birth, through faith in the blood of Christ; through the Word, and by the Holy Ghost.
  7. Holiness to be God's standard of living for His people.
  8. In the baptism with the Holy Ghost subsequent to a clean heart.
  9. In speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance and that it is the initial evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
  10. In water baptism by immersion, and all who repent should be baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
  11. Divine healing is provided for all in the atonement.
  12. In the Lord's Supper and washing of the saints' feet.
  13. In the premillennial second coming of Jesus. First, to resurrect the righteous dead and to catch away the living saints to Him in the air. Second, to reign on the earth a thousand years.
  14. In the bodily resurrection; eternal life for the righteous, and eternal punishment for the wicked.

WELCOME

We welcome you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Ottawa Church of God is a place where people matter. Our church has been a beacon of hope for over thirty years to the city of Ottawa. During this period God has transformed many lives and numerous families have experienced the joy of reconciliation.

As a community of faith, we do not present ourselves as a showcase of saints, but a clinic for the sick and a place of restoration for those who have been battered and bruised by Satan, Sin or Situations in life. We consider our church to be an instrument for positive change as well as a preserver of strong moral and spiritual values in our city.

Our vision is to help each person identify his/her spiritual gifts, to provide training and direction, and to explore opportunities for ministry. As believers operate in their areas of giftedness, there is a greater sense of personal fulfillment, the "Body of Christ" is edified and the community is served through the loving power of God. To fulfill this vision we minister the love of God by bringing healing and deliverance to a hurting world as we serve our community by providing the following ministries: Prison Outreach, Hospital Visitation, weekly food distribution, Literacy Enrichment Programs, Individual and Family counseling.

Our Mandate is to reap the harvest with diligence and urgency in view of the soon return of our Lord Jesus Christ. In a world dominated by national, racial and sectarian interest, our congregation offers a refreshing oasis of true multicultural worship and fellowship. God is indeed building a multicultural congregation, which models the unity of the Spirit, and you are invited to come and experience refreshment for your soul.

On behalf of our family and the leadership of this exciting congregation, we invite you to come and visit us. If you do not have a church home, please consider becoming a part of this great ministry.

Sincerely,

Bishop Jean W. Bruno
